Woodland Rediscovered

In White Garden on December 20, 2011 at 9:24 am

INTRODUCTION:  The White Garden is the oldest garden on Randall’s Island.  Designed by Joe Taylor in 2002, the garden features a birch tree grove underplanted with Hyacinthoides.  The adjacent garden is composed of plants with white blooms or white variegation.   This is one of the most serene places on the island.  Slightly hidden away, the garden has a 100 year old Ulmus (Elm).  This part of the island still retains some of the original character of the  woodland people associate with Randall’s Island before it was developed.
