NYC WILDFLOWER WEEK 2011 / May 6-15, 2011

Time: Tuesday, May 10, 11:00am – 12:30pm
Location: Meet at Icahn Stadium, Randall’s Island
Guide: Horticulturist, Randall’s Island Park

Description: Tour the Native Wildflower Meadow at Hell Gate facing the Harlem River on Randall’s Island. Horticulture staff will discuss the process of creating the meadow which is currently being extended to 10,000 square feet. Visitors will see emerging native wildflowers such as wild indigo (Baptisia tinctoria), big-leaf lupine (Lupinus polyphyllus), golden alexanders (Zizia aurea), and switch grass (Panicum virgatum).
